Getting to Know Me

Eleven years ago, my passion for public service led me to Washington, D.C. Since my arrival, I lived, worked and have come to know nearly every neighborhood in Ward 2. During that time, I have become an activist for increasing city government responsiveness, making our neighborhoods safer, addressing nuisance properties, supporting neighborhood businesses, and improving our parks and schools in Ward 2.
As my law and graduate studies at the George Washington University were nearing an end, I increasingly got involved in my Logan Circle neighborhood by becoming board member and then president of the Logan Circle Community Association (LCCA). After two years leading LCCA, I was elected Advisory Neighborhood Commission and was deeply humbled and honored to be elected as Chairperson of the Logan Circle ANC the following year by my fellow commissioners.
As an ANC Commissioner, I most enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with my neighbors and small business owners during an exciting time in Logan Circle. In August 2004, I bought my first home in Mount Vernon Square / Shaw neighborhood which unfortunately required me to step down from a position that was truly rewarding. Because of my positive experience helping fellow neighbors, I became involved in my new neighborhood as committee chairperson and member of the board of directors of Shaw Main Streets as well as president of the Mount Vernon Square Neighborhood Association (MVSNA).
As someone who has always loved animals, I have adopted a dog, Rocky, and two cats, Apollo and Sinatra. You can find me playing in a pool at Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle, enjoying biking, playing tennis, and frequenting our area’s fantastic selection of restaurants.
Professionally, I am a lawyer at a top law firm's D.C. office, where I oversee our office’s pro bono work. If elected to the D.C. Council, I will devote myself as a full-time councilmember because I sincerely believe we need an active and engaged advocate for our neighborhoods who is fully focused on us.
I appreciate your interest in my candidacy and seek your support in affecting change in Ward 2. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me at cary@caryforcouncil.org.
